Gravel Pit Academy Foundation

Every child deserves the opportunity to play, learn, and grow.
Gravel Pit Academy Foundation, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) that provides free, structured athletic and educational programs for underserved children across Massachusetts’ South Shore. Based in Scituate, we help children build skills, confidence, and connections without financial circumstances standing in their way.

Why we started
We started the Foundation with a simple belief: a family’s income should never determine a child’s opportunity.

For too many families, youth sports have become difficult to afford. Registration fees, equipment, travel, and training costs can put participation out of reach. National research shows a substantial gap in sports participation between children from higher-income and lower-income households, while the cost of playing continues to rise.

When children cannot afford to participate, they miss more than practices and games. They miss opportunities to develop their abilities, build friendships, learn teamwork, and discover what they can achieve.

We created Gravel Pit Academy Foundation to help close that opportunity gap in our own community.

Opening doors today and for the future
Access to sports gives children a chance to develop their talents over time. Our goal is to keep those possibilities open, including school teams, college athletics, and potential athletic scholarships for children who pursue those paths.

Our commitment extends to every child we serve, whatever their athletic ambitions. We want children to gain confidence, build healthy habits, strengthen their education, and carry those foundations into adulthood.

How we help
Our free after-school programs bring athletics and education together in a structured, supportive environment. Children have opportunities to stay active, develop athletic skills, engage in learning, and build relationships with peers and supportive adults.

We aim to make the hours after school a time for growth: a place to practice, learn, ask questions, try something new, and feel part of a community. These experiences also give children meaningful opportunities to spend time away from screens and connect in person.

By removing financial barriers, we help more children access the support and experiences they need to pursue their potential.

Help us reach more children

The need in our community is growing, and more families are seeking opportunities to participate. With support from donors and community partners, we can expand our programs and welcome more children across the South Shore.

Together, we can help ensure that opportunity is shaped by a child’s interests and potential, rather than a family’s ability to pay.
